I urge you to [support/not support/vote yes or no] to [explain what legislation is].

I am counting on your support. Thank you for your time.

Examples

1. Hi Senator,

My name is Sarah and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. As a Jew, I am called by my faith to reach out to you. The Torah teaches us that every person is created in the image of Gd. It is because of this principle that I must speak out about the Respect for Marriage Act. I support this because I believe as my tradition teaches me that all people should be respected for who they are.

I urge you, as a person of faith, to vote yes on the RFMA to ensure marriage protection for LGBTQ+ and interracial couples. I am counting on your support. Thank you for your time.

2. My name is Jake and I am an ally to the LGBTQ+ community living in Orlando, Florida. My Jewish tradition teaches me that all people — including queer and trans people — are created in the image of Gd. I believe that my friends, neighbors, and family members who are in the LGBTQ+ community deserve the same opportunities to work and live in our community as anyone else.

Because of this, I urge you to support the Equality Act that has been passed by the House of Representatives. If you are not able to stand strong for equality for all Americans and listen to your constituents, I will vote for another candidate who will.

3. Hello, my name is Ryan and I am a constituent who lives in Columbus, Ohio and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am calling to urge you to support queer and trans rights.

I expect my representatives to support my community and take positive action to protect trans youth. Please vote YES on House Bill 1714 and NO on House Bill 1536.

It’s not enough to just vote the right way. My Jewish tradition teaches me to treat other people as they would like to be treated with dignity and respect. I cannot sit idly by as if there is nothing I can do when people who are just living their lives are being attacked and hurt.

I expect your office to take action to protect all LGBTQ+ people in our community. Thank you for your time.
