The Deal with the Spiel, Creating LGBTQ+ Inclusive Purim Programming
Purim is a time when we dress up, celebrate, and turn convention on its head. It’s a holiday with a different set of rules and customs than other days, which presents both liberatory possibilities and harmful stereotypes of LGBTQ people, particularly trans and non binary folks. Purim celebrations can create an unsafe and exclusionary tone if they include mockery of gender identity and expression. Bringing together various aspects of Purim celebrations and tradition, this webinar will explore the ways in which Jewish organizations can avoid the pitfalls of Purim and create a truly celebratory and liberating Purim celebration.
