Jews, LGBTQ+ people, and allies in Ohio: we are called to action.

The 2025 Ohio Legislative Session presents a critical opportunity for engagement within our community. Anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in Ohio since 2024, threatening the safety and dignity of transgender youth, LGBTQ+ families, and the freedom to live as our full selves. But together, we are stronger than hate, and these efforts can be stopped. Alongside with our partners at Equality Ohio, we are showing up in the fight for true equality.

We’ve seen community power in action. Last year, hundreds of people submitted opponent testimony to the legislature and showed up to testify at the Capitol against anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Despite this overwhelming opponent testimony, extremist politicians still voted to pass some of the policy. However, thanks to relentless grassroots advocacy, many of the harmful bills were delayed or defeated. In the spirit of Lo Libatel, we do not give up, we must return to this fight with renewed strength and solidarity.

Jewish tradition compels us to act:

  • B’Tzelem Elohim – Every person is created in the image of the Divine, deserving of dignity, respect, and protection.
  • Pikuach Nefesh – Saving lives is a sacred obligation, and we know that affirming LGBTQ+ youth and fighting transphobia can be lifesaving.
  • Kol Yisrael Areivim Zeh BaZeh – We are responsible for one another. What happens to one part of our community affects us all.

Together, we can create an Ohio where all of us: queer, trans, Jewish, are safe, seen, and valued.
