Keshet, a national organization working for LGBT equality and inclusion in all areas of Jewish life, has announced it will give Jennifer Gorovitz one of its two inaugural Landres Courage for Dignity Awards.

The former CEO of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation will be receiving her award in September, as will the other winner, Israeli activist Ayala Katz, who became an outspoken leader for LGBT equality in Israel following the murder of her gay son, Nir.

They will be recognized at an event called Glimmer, which will be Keshet’s first major fundraiser in the Bay Area.

The award was created by former Keshet board member Shawn Landres, a social entrepreneur, to recognize individuals who display public courage in supporting the full inclusion of LGBT people or others whose dignity is at stake.

Gorovitz, who left her federation post at the end of March, was credited by Keshet for “leadership on LGBT issues [that] set a national example for Jewish leaders across the country.”
