Before she can marry Maria (Luise Wolfram), her German girlfriend, Shira (Moran Rosenblatt, Red Cow BJFF 2018, Apples from the Desert BJFF 2014) must convince her family that Maria’s family were “good Germans” during the war. Although Shira’s grandmother Berta (Israeli film legend Rivka Michaeli) complains that Maria is a shikse, Maria and Shira remain devoted. But Maria grows more skeptical as Shira’s exes turn up around seemingly every corner. Berta starts a clandestine romance with her Palestinian Arab neighbor Ibrahim. Then Maria’s left-wing parents travel to Israel to help plan a big wedding with Shira’s settler parents. This big-hearted, multi-layered comedy about overcoming differences is tinged with drama and truth.
