Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center (PJTC) is guided by Jewish values of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). We foster and cultivate meaningful connections, while recognizing the blessings of each person’s authenticity. Jewish values such as the imperative that every individual is created in God's image (b'tzelem elohim) and the desire to offer everyone regardless of financial situation full access to Jewish spiritual life guide us, as we seek to ensure a community of belonging. PJTC is the only non-orthodox synagogue in Pasadena, and the largest LGBTQIA+ inclusive spiritual space in the greater San Gabriel Valley. We work hard to welcome everyone and meet them where they are.
PJTC was the first Conservative synagogue that hired an openly trans rabbi as our director of education. Rabbi Becky Silverstein has since moved on, but his legacy and the legacy of that hiring decision have shaped the community and made it more aware and inclusive than Conservative shuls can be.
