Our community – which we call our Jewish Neighborhood – strives to make every person feel at home. We recognize that inclusion is an ongoing practice, not a one-time checklist, and we are committed to continuing to welcome Jews and people in Jewish families of all identities. LGBTQ+ members are proudly represented in every corner of our neighborhood: among our senior clergy and lay leadership, our teachers, participating in our youth and teen programs, singing in our choir, engaged in social justice work, and participating fully in every facet of Temple life. Our Temple creates opportunities to celebrate and affirm LGBTQ+ identities through affinity spaces, observing LGBTQ+ days of significance, providing affirming pastoral care, and advocating on local, statewide, and federal issues. However you want to affiliate and participate, we’d love to welcome you to our Jewish Neighborhood.
Temple Isaiah is more than a synagogue. It is a Jewish Neighborhood - a place of learning and purpose, friendship and celebration. As the oldest and largest synagogue in Contra Costa County, our roots run deep in a uniquely Californian approach to Jewish life - grounded in tradition and open to innovation. We welcome all who come through our doors with warmth, openness, and care. Our community reflects the beautiful diversity of Jewish life today, including interfaith families, people at every stage of life, and individuals of all abilities, backgrounds, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Inspired by the prophet Isaiah’s vision of a house of prayer open to all peoples, we strive to live our values through spirituality, study, and action. We bring our hearts, minds, and hands together to pursue justice, connection, and meaning in the modern world.
