About

At Congregation Beth Israel, our LGBTQ+ community members are welcomed and celebrated. As written in our mission statement, and in line with the mission and values of Reconstructing Judaism, we believe that all people, including LGBTQ+ folks, are divine and therefore have a full voice in the communal Jewish life we co-create together. Queer community members participate actively in all sectors of Jewish life at BI, and we have a sizeable LGBTQ+ congregational contingency across all ages and pockets of our congregation. Our educational and spiritual programming highlights queer teachers, issues, and theologies, and we are continuing to prioritize programming that lifts up the voices and lived-experiences of queer Jews. Our LGBTQ+ members and families express feelings of welcome and belonging at BI, and our community's shared ethos and values supports this belonging.

Fostering a celebratory and welcoming community towards our LGBTQ+ members is a core value of ours. And, there is always more for us to learn and do. We are committed to create a kehillah kedosha- a holy community- that cherishes all individuals of our community. We are continuously self-auditing and updating our policies and programs to reflect this.
