Chavurat Or'Leans was founded on the principle of radical inclusion. In fact..."we were expecting you!" Our prayer services are grounded in Jewish observance while being further elevated by an accessible, intentional, and unintimidating approach to spirituality and tradition. Whether hosted in a community home or at a synagogue or other Jewish space, we strive to create an space that feels warm and welcoming.
Chavurat Or'Leans meets regularly twice a month - once at Touro Synagogue and once in a community home - and at various other times. There is always coffee, or you are welcome to bring your own! Kids programming (and snacks!) are provided because we understand that parents cannot attend or participate if there is not engaging and fun activities for their kids. Following a spirited, lay-lead, egalitarian prayer service using a prayer book that is deeply grounded in tradition and shaped by egalitarianism, we eat! Because we know that schmoozing and eating are a part of Jewish culture. Chavurat Or'Leans adds to the robustness and depth of Jewish life in New Orleans, and all are welcome!
