CJC was founded in December 2020 with a primary goal of centering the needs of folks who have historically been marginalized in Jewish communities, including LGBTQ+ folks. We are a queer-normative space and the vast majority of our membership and leadership identifies as queer and/or trans/nonbinary. We want everyone to be able to show up in the fullness of their identities. We welcome all who share our values and want to be in community with us, including anyone, Jewish or not, who is interested in exploring and experiencing Jewish life.
We are not affiliated with a denomination, but are most influenced by Reconstructionist Judaism. Our spiritual practice tends to be diasporic and earth-based, and we love reclaiming old folk practices. We don't have a building and gather at various places in northeast Ohio, including parks, members’ homes, libraries, and values-aligned churches. We strive to rent space that is wheelchair accessible and has gender-neutral bathrooms whenever possible. Our Access Team is working to increase accessibility at all our gatherings.
