About

At Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom, we believe that every person is created b'tselem Elohim (in the divine image), and our community reflects this sacred truth through radical inclusivity and wholehearted welcome. Our Commitment to LGBTQ+ Community Members Full Participation in Jewish Life: LGBTQ+ individuals and families participate fully in all aspects of our congregation, including leadership roles, lifecycle celebrations, and ritual honors. We celebrate same-gender marriages, support transgender members through name and gender transitions, and welcome LGBTQ+ families in all their beautiful forms. Safe and Affirming Worship: Our services, educational programs, and social gatherings are intentionally designed to be safe spaces where LGBTQ+ members can bring their whole selves to Jewish practice. Our clergy and lay leaders are trained in LGBTQ+ cultural competency and use inclusive language throughout our programming. Comprehensive Family Support: We recognize that Jewish families come in many forms. Whether you're a same-gender couple raising children, a transgender parent, or part of a chosen family structure, we provide resources, support, and celebration for your unique journey in Jewish life. Community Beyond Our Walls: We actively partner with LGBTQ+ organizations in the Greater Hartford area and participate in Pride celebrations, demonstrating our commitment extends beyond our synagogue doors into the broader community.
