Beth Abraham is for many people a second home, as a Jewish community centered in a small city where most of us are from elsewhere. Everyone who comes through our doors for an individual conversation, a study group, prayers services, a meal, or any other reason adds strength and joy to our group. Over the past two decades, Beth Abraham's professional and volunteer leadership has been working on making sure that we live up to our inclusive and welcoming intentions. Our name itself is the House of Avraham and Sarah, our founding ancestors, who stood at the door and brought people in first with no questions asked. Our path within the Conservative movement over the past twenty years around LGBTQ+ matters began when parents began to speak up about the experiences of their gay and lesbian children. It continued with our embrace of marriage equality within halacha (Jewish law) and attention to detail around many things from membership forms to how we call people to the Torah. For several years we have been celebrating Pride Month, and joining with other religious groups in our city's Pride Parade and Festival. Our Tzedek (Justice) group members are active in speaking up for Trans rights in the name of Judaism. Overall we strive to be a welcoming, learning and caring community for all our members and anyone who wishes to be part of a Jewish community.
