About

Cantor Abbe Lyons is dedicated to enhancing the spiritual and emotional power of music and Jewish learning in everyday life as well as in sacred spaces. She is the Interim Director of the Cantorial Program for ALEPH Ordination Program, where she studied with founding director Hazzan Jack Kessler and received smicha as Hazzan (Cantor) in 2010. She is a Hillel professional at Ithaca College, where received a B.Mus. in voice performance in 1987. Cantor Lyons is an innovative liturgist whose published work includes poetry, alternative social justice haftarot and the album Listen! with her multifaith band, Resonate.

I came out in 1979 and have been experimenting with more gender-inclusive liturgy since the 1990s. I have conjugated essential life cycle prayers for people using m, f, nb singular and plural pronouns.
