In Rabbi Karen Bodney-Halasz’s role as Senior Rabbi at Temple Israel, her focus on social justice, compassionate care, inspired worship, and relationship building has enriched both Temple Israel and the broader Dayton community. She is the first woman to hold the role in the 175-year history of Dayton’s largest synagogue. Rabbi Karen Bodney-Halasz is an engaging and patient teacher who makes scholarship accessible and interesting. She is noted as well for her personal warmth and authenticity. Rabbi Bodney-Halasz earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in Hebrew letters and rabbinic ordination from HUC-JIR in Cincinnati. Rabbi Bodney-Halasz is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and the Women’s Rabbinic Network. She serves on the core leadership team for RAC - Ohio.
