As a member of the Jewish community, I pledge to uphold the dignity, safety, and humanity of all trans, nonbinary and intersex people. Rooted in the Jewish values of justice (tzedek) and dignity (kavod), I commit to taking meaningful action to affirm that trans Jews belong here.

Across the country, we are witnessing a surge of harmful legislation and rhetoric targeting trans, nonbinary, and intersex people. There are hundreds of active anti-trans bills, as well as executive orders that seek to strip away fundamental rights and protections. So often, these policies are advanced in the name of faith. Our Jewish faith mandates the very opposite and teaches us that this political landscape threatens the safety and dignity of our community members while undermining our core Jewish values.

Now more than ever, we must take action to build a future that affirms the dignity and humanity of all people.

I affirm:

  • Trans, nonbinary, and intersex people are created b'tzelem Elohim — in the image of the Divine — and are deserving of dignity, respect, and safety.
  • Jewish communities must be places of full inclusion and belonging for people of all gender identities and expressions.
  • I will stand in solidarity with the trans community to challenge harmful policies and rhetoric targeting trans, nonbinary, and intersex people.
I commit to taking action where I can:
  • Bringing this list of concrete steps to my Jewish institutions so that my Jewish community can be a safe haven for trans people
  • Encouraging my synagogue or Jewish institution to join Keshet's Thrive coalition
  • Educating my Jewish community about the importance of trans dignity and inclusion
  • Advocating for just policies that protect trans lives and affirm trans dignity
  • Supporting organizations like Keshet and the ACLU in their work to promote trans justice – check here for upcoming advocacy events
  • Donating to organizations such as Keshet and the Campaign for Southern Equality that support trans and nonbinary individuals navigating legal and financial challenges
Together, we can live out our Jewish values and build a future of dignity, justice, and compassion for all people.
