  • Keshet and our partners mobilized the Jewish community to send a clear message: LGBTQ+ rights are a Jewish value. Together, we took action by contacting elected officials to stop the transphobic and anti-LGBTQ+ bills HR 734 and HR 5. We coordinated a Jewish sign-on effort in partnership with the RAC that amassed close to 100 signatories, and distributed it to Congress.

Background: HR 734 attempted to ban transgender and intersex youth from playing on school sports teams, taking away the important social and health benefits and the opportunities to build skills like teamwork, cooperation, and leadership we know kids get from playing sports. HR 5 tried to insert the federal government as a national school board, undermined local control, and hurt the ability of both parents and teachers to support children.

Result: The harmful bills did not become law. We made our stance known: as Jews, we firmly believe that all people deserve the right to live as their complete selves without fear and intimidation.
