Award-winning author and LGBTQ & Civil Rights Advocate Jo Ivester will speak on what it is like to have a transgender son in a world not quite ready for people like him. She is the author of Once a Girl, Always a Boy and The Outskirts of Hope and serves on the boards of Equality Texas, Anti-Defamation League of Central Texas, and Texas chapter of GLSEN.
Jeremy Ivester is a transgender man. 30 years ago, his parents welcomed him into the world as their daughter. As a child, he preferred the toys and games our society views as masculine. Once a Girl, Always a Boy is Jeremy’s journey from childhood through coming out as transgender and eventually emerging as an advocate for the transgender community. This is not only Jeremy’s story but that of his family, told from multiple perspectives―his own view and those of his siblings and parents.
