Dr. Shawn Landres, Ph.D.

Connecting people, ideas, and resources, Dr. Shawn Landres has earned international recognition for his leadership in social innovation. He is co-founder of Jumpstart Labs, a philanthropic research and design consultancy. Shawn is a past three-term chair of the County of Los Angeles Quality and Productivity Commissioner and a current City of Santa Monica Planning Commissioner, as well as a member of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Financial Oversight Committee. A Senior Fellow at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and board member of the Santa Monica Bay Area Human Relations Council, he is a former chair of the City of Santa Monica Social Services Commission. Shawn served for six years on the advisory board of Jewish Mosaic: The National Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, where, as chair, he helped facilitate its merger with Keshet. A Southern California native, where he and his wife Zuzana are now being raised by their two daughters, Shawn holds degrees from Columbia, Oxford, and UC Santa Barbara, where he earned a doctorate in religious studies. He has co-edited four books and published award-winning articles and essays that advance intergroup understanding, and his achievements have earned extensive attention, from the Obama White House, which featured him as a “spotlight innovator,” to media including The Wall Street Journal, TIME, The New York Times, Ha’aretz, Chronicle of Philanthropy, GOOD.is, and FastCo.EXIST. In 2013, the Liberty Hill Foundation honored him with its NextGen Leadership Award. He was a 2015-16 California Connections Fellow of the Southern California Leadership Network, which in 2017 selected him as a 30th anniversary “30-in-30” alumni honoree. Shawn is an advisor to NEXUS and a member of the ROI Community and the Selah Leadership Network.

Marc Maxwell, AIA

Marc Maxwell has degrees in both planning and architecture. Having earned his Bachelor of Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati, and then his Master of Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his career has consistently focused on integrating thoughtful planning and architectural design into a single practice. Maxwell’s career has included academic research and teaching, corporate employment, and private consulting and design firm positions. Maxwell has specialized in several building and project types, all focused on keeping the eventual building user’s needs in the forefront of the design process, looking towards the long term value of the completed project and renovation of existing structures as the ultimate “green” environmentally conscience philosophy. Maxwell maintains strong community involvement in a number of projects and organizations, sitting on several not-for-profit boards including: Temple Israel Boston, BGLAD (Boston Gay Lesbian Architects and Designers) and Stonewall Communities, Inc., and providing at least 10% of his professional time annually to pro bono activities.

Dr. Betty Morningstar

Dr. Betty Morningstar is a clinical social worker in private practice in Newton, MA. She is a former member of the Continuing Education faculty at Smith College School For Social Work, where she also received her MSW and PhD. Betty received a MA in Religious Studies at Andover Newton Theological School (now part of Yale Divinity School). She participated in CPE training at HebrewSeniorLife and has served as a pastoral counselor there. At HSL she ran poetry groups and worked individually with a religiously diverse clientele. Upon stepping down as president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, she and a group of colleagues formed the Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Change. This group has produced workshops and published articles on culturally-aware leadership. Betty is a writer, wife, and parent of an adult son and a senior dog.

Rabbi Deborah Newbrun

Rabbi Deborah Newbrun’s career as a Jewish community leader (particularly in Jewish environmental education) spans thirty years, including working twenty-five years as Camp Tawonga’s Director, four years as Hazon’s Director in the Bay Area, and eight months as Keshet’s Interim Bay Area Director. Additionally, she serves on the faculty of multiple fellowships including Lekhu Lakhem and Hiddur for the Foundation for Jewish Camp. Before entering the Jewish not-for-profit world, Deborah was a National Park Service Ranger.

Deborah co-authored Spirit In Nature/Teaching Judaism and Ecology on the Trail. Recently she co-founded JOLT (Jewish Outdoor Leadership Training)–for staff working in Jewish summer camps across North America–which she directs for Hazon’s JOFEE Fellows. Deborah is known for being an engaging and creative Jewish educator and infusing deep spirit into her teachings. She is married to Sue Reinhold. They have four children and are about to become empty nesters.

Director of Whole Person Integrated Care, San Francisco Department of Public Health

Dara Papo, a licensed clinical social worker, was born in the Bay Area and is continuing a family history of involvement in the Jewish community. She has over two decades experience supporting individuals and communities increase their health and wellness through provision of behavioral health services in community-based settings. Papo is the Director of Whole Person Integrated Care at the San Francisco Department of Public Health which provides services to people experiencing homelessness. Papo participated in the first cohort of the Pathways LGBT Leadership program — a partnership between Keshet and the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco. She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and holds a Master of Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley.ornia, Santa Cruz, and holds a Master of Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley.

Nathan Render

Director of Customer Experience, Mockingbird

Nathan Render has worked in the Jewish, foundation, non-profit, and innovation communities for the past several years. He currently works at Mockingbird, a premium direct-to-consumer baby gear company, leading their Customer Experience team. Previously, he worked at CIC, one of the largest clusters of start-ups in the world and whose mission is to fix the world through innovation. At CIC, he managed strategic initiatives for the CEO and served as Director of Operations CIC’s sister non-profit organization, Venture Café, dedicated to connecting innovators to make things happen.

Nathan began his career as the Bronfman Fellow at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life in Washington, DC and later worked at the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust, a family foundation committed to helping people get along better. Most recently, he managed training for the northeast region of EverFi, an education technology company focusing on cultivating critical skills from financial literacy to critical thinking. He received his B.A. from Tufts University in Anthropology and Child Development. He currently serves on the board of the Columbus JCC and on the Executive Board of Temple Israel, Columbus. Nathan lives in Columbus, Ohio with his husband Tal, and their daughters Orly and Naomi.

Jason Rosenberg

Jason is originally from Montreal. There he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (major in Finance) and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting from McGill University. Jason began his career working in public accounting and consulting, mainly with Ernst & Young. He is now the Head of Risk & Resiliency at Autodesk, a software company in San Francisco.

Jason was previously the Chairperson of the Young Adult Division of Federation CJA (Montreal), serving as one of the first openly gay chairs of a Federation division. Jason also sits on the Board of the Jewish Film Institute.

Wendy is Founder and Principal of Rosov Consulting, a mission-driven company dedicated to informing and improving the philanthropy and practice of Jewish education and engagement. Wendy brings nearly 30 years of experience as a senior-level consultant to individual philanthropists, community and family foundations, and communal nonprofit organizations, including federations across North America. Over her career, she has worked with over 100 different grantmaking and operating foundations and their grantees. Through Rosov Consulting’s Israel office, Wendy and the team serve as evaluation consultants for the Government of Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and work with other Israel-based clients.

Prior to founding Rosov Consulting, Wendy served for 10 years as senior staff at the Jewish Education Service of North America (JESNA). Wendy holds a PhD in Education from Stanford University, an MA in Jewish Education from the University of Judaism (now AJU), and a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University. Wendy is an alumna of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship Program. Wendy lives in Berkeley, CA with her partner Peg, who is Head of School at Brandeis Marin (a K-8 Jewish day school just outside of San Francisco). Their two children are in college at Hebrew University and Colorado College. After too many sports injuries, Wendy now enjoys swimming and hiking on a daily basis, and spending as much time as possible at a place called The Sea Ranch along the beautiful Northern California coast.

Rabbi Becky Silverstein believes in the power of community, Torah, and silliness in transforming the world. He strives to build a Jewish community and world that encourages and allows everyone to live a life that reflects their inherent divinity / dignity. Becky is a member of the faculty at SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva, co-initiator of the Trans Halakha Project, and a Schusterman Fellow. He has spent many hours facilitating Keshet workshops and staffing shabbatonim.  Becky currently serves as the chair of the boards of SVARA and the Jewish Studio Project. Becky grew up in New York, holds a B.S. in Engineering from Smith College and Rabbinic Ordination from the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College. Becky resides in Jamaica Plain, MA, with his spouse, Naomi Sobel, and kiddo, Edie Gefen, for whom he makes pancakes or waffles almost every Sunday morning.

Martin Tannenbaum brings over 40 years of experience helping nonprofit and for-profit organizations learn, grow and innovate. He developed his expertise through a series of senior leadership positions at Merrill Lynch (as Group Vice President, Business Financial Services), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (as Executive Director of New and Traditional Products), and as Chief Operating Officer at The Idea Factory. He also gained deep insights as a consultant with several premier nonprofit organizations: The Boston Foundation, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and Yale-New Haven Medical Center. He currently consults with Jewish Family and Children’s Services. Martin serves as Resource Development Chair and a board member Sha’ar Zahav as well as Rhoda Goldman Plaza. He is also a past board chair of Keshet. Martin received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University, and an MBA, with honors, from Boston University.
