The author explores the commandment to blot out the memory of Amalek, but also to not forget. She asks, how do we blot out a memory and not forget at the same time? She also writes of the metaphorical significance of “every first fruit of the soil.” In this portion, we are promised that as long as we observe God’s laws and rules, we are affirmed as God’s treasured people. The author wonders what it would it be like for LGBTQ people to claim our identity as God’s treasure, and to live our lives as a reflection of that status?
