Rabbi Becky Silverstein believes in the power of community, Torah, and silliness in transforming the world. He strives to build a Jewish community and world that encourages everyone to express their full selves and is passionate about learning in queer-affirming and antiracist spaces.
Rabbi Silverstein is well known for teaching from a place of personal experience and truth, and making the vocabulary of gender and sexuality accessible. He realized during his tenure at Smith College that he was more passionate about running the Kosher Kitchen than his engineering classes, and began his path to Hebrew College, where he was ordained in 2014.
After ordination, Rabbi Silverstein served at Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center, where he was the first out transgender rabbi to be hired by a Conservative Synagogue. Becky is a long time facilitator and trainer at Keshet, in addition to being a core staff member of Keshet’s Shabbaton weekend retreats.
Rabbi Silverstein is the Rabbi/Founder of Beyn Kodesh l’Chol, an emergent Jewish communal project based in Jamaica Plain. As a SVARA Teaching Fellow, he teaches Talmud to queer and trans Jews. Rabbi Silverstein serves on the boards of Keshet, The Jewish Studio Project (Chair), and SVARA (Chair). He is a member of the current cohort of the Schusterman Fellowship.
