This year, Keshet is choosing to make our #GivingTuesday a #GivingThanksTuesday, a day to express our gratitude to our supporters. Now, more than ever, your commitment and support make a critical difference. Thank you for standing with us and standing for LGBTQ equality and inclusion in Jewish life.
We are glad to offer short profiles of four of our generous donors today.
Colin Weil is the Executive Director of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, a community with a long and storied focus on social justice that has spent many decades reimagining Jewishness. He is also Board Treasurer of the Council of American Jewish Museums, on the board of the New Leader Scholarship in the Bay Area, and Founding Chair of Eli’s Mishpacha – Yale’s Jewish Alumni Group. As a gay Jew, Colin was intrigued by Keshet’s mission early on. “What really drew me in was the focus on integration, inclusion, and respectful coexistence,” he says. “[He appreciated] that the agenda was not just to create tolerance. Weaving LGBTQ identities into our Jewish identities is very right and necessary.” Colin continues to be inspired to give by hearing first person stories through live presentations and videos.
“Keshet’s strategy and approach feels very right to me in terms of not confronting but engaging. So much pain and harm in the world is caused by fear and anxiety of the ‘other’ and there’s nothing more powerful than building bridges. It’s about creating opportunities for people to regain families and giving Jewish leaders a sense of pride in expanding their tents and opening up the hearts and minds of their congregants.”
This year Colin is most grateful for his job, an exciting position which gives him the responsibility of touching the lives of 3,000 congregants, and that his 5 ½ year old daughter, Stella, is happy, healthy, and loving kindergarten.
Colin signed up for a monthly gift to Keshet, automatically charged to his credit card. Sign up today for a recurring gift, to support Keshet’s work for inclusive Jewish communities all year long!
