The author asks why a census must be taken. To be counted is to be blessed. To count others is to bestow a blessing upon them. She argues that this is what LGBT Jews have been doing since the 1970′s: started synagogues and organizations, written prayer and liturgy through which we tell our stories and count ourselves.
