The Equality Act aims to prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in schools, housing, and employment, among many other aspects of our daily lives. If we passed it into law, it would put a stop to nearly all federal, state, and local bills that discriminate against LGBTQ+ people.

That’s why passing the Equality Act is so crucial—it’s imperative to ensure that all individuals, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity, are afforded equal rights and protections under the law. That’s not the case right now!

The Torah demands of us: “you must not stand idly by” (Vayikra 19:16). This text is traditionally understood as a call to action when the safety of another is threatened. Against a backdrop of legislation that endangers the safety and well-being of millions of LGBTQ+ people, non-discrimination protections are more important than ever. Each of us has an obligation to act.
